A short time later, Larry is dead: he is found in his apartment with his skull bashed in. Not only his brother, who was cheated out of his share, is a suspect, but also the lawyer Ryder, who lost his wife to Larry. Clare Norman had just quarrelled with the dead man over his numerous womanizing affairs and he was also not on good terms with gossip columnist Jo Mitchell.
